RULES & DIVISIONS
GENERAL
-
All matches are 6 minutes long, with a 2 minute overtime if the match ends in a draw at the end of regular time.
-
Each match operates with a system of positive points for scoring, but not advanced.
Every match consists of two parts: stand-up fighting and ground grappling. During the first 2 minutes, the emphasis is on stand-up fighting, encouraging active wrestling, judo, and takedown attempts. If a competitor pulls guard during this first part, they will receive a penalty. However, they can continue as soon as they engage with their opponent but a simply sitting down without engaging will result in a penalty and referee will ask to start again in stand up position.
For the next 4 minutes of the match, competitors are allowed to pull guard without penalty. However, it is the responsibility of the guard puller to immediately engage and attack. If the referee notices that the opponent is actively evading the guard puller, the fault and penalty will be against the evading competitor for not engaging with the guard puller.
-
After the full 6-minute match, if the match finishes in a draw, we go for an additional 2-minute extra, known as 'overtime'.
The overtime restarts exactly from the same position where the match concluded at the end of the regular time. Both opponents restart from the same position in the middle of the regulation area. As soon as the extra 2 minutes begin, the first person to submit their opponent or score any point wins. This decisive moment is known as the 'Golden Point.'
If the overtime period does not determine a winner and the match still ends in a draw, the winner will be decided by the competitor who scored the last point during the regular time.
-
If the referee observes any inactivity or detects stalling techniques, they will issue a warning to the competitor within the following 20 seconds. At the end of this 20-second period of stalling, that will be a penalty: the 1st penalty adds 1 point to your opponent's score, the 2nd penalty adds 2 points, the 3rd penalty adds 3 points, and the 4th penalty leads to disqualification and the end of the match.
Accumulating 4 penalties, particularly for inactivity, leads to immediate disqualification after the fourth penalty. Penalties can also be incurred for other types of illegal techniques, such as minor or major infractions, which may result in disqualification. (For more information about minor or mayor infractions please refer to our rule book.)
POINT SYSTEM
-
Mount & Back Mount: 4 points - Points are earned when you achieve the mount position, with both knees touching the floor. If there's a significant size difference and it's impossible for both knees to touch, the referees will make a judgment call. Your opponent's back must be on the floor. Reverse mount or back mount also scores points. Even if your opponent's hands are trapped under your legs, it still counts. Both knees must be below the shoulder line.
Back control: 4 points - Points are awarded for achieving back control with hooks or a body triangle. To earn these points, you must maintain the position, with no hook or body triangle release lasting longer than 3 seconds.
-
Clean Takedown (ends beyond the guard): 3 points - To earn these points, you must perform a takedown that ends with you outside of your opponent's guard, with no threat of submission, and at least 75% of your opponent's back must be on the mat. You must maintain this position for 3 seconds or more to earn the full 3 points.
Clean Sweep (ends beyond the guard): 3 points - A Clean Sweep occurs when a competitor transitions from the bottom position with their opponent in their guard, inverting the position so that the opponent who was on top is now on the bottom. To score 3 points for a Clean Sweep, the transition must end with the competitor outside of their opponent's guard, with over 75% of their opponent's back on the floor. The competitor must establish this position for 3 seconds or more, and there should be no immediate threat of submission during this period.
Guard Pass: 3 points - To earn these points, you must successfully pass your opponent's guard, ensuring that at least 75% of their back is on the mat. You must establish this position for 3 seconds or more to earn the points for passing the guard.
-
Takedown (ends in Guard or Half Guard): 2 points - You will receive 2 points for taking your opponent down, provided that their butt or back remains on the mat for at least 3 seconds. If you take your opponent down and they attempt a submission, points will only be awarded once you escape the submission threat and maintain the position for 3 seconds or more to earn the full 2 points.
Sweeps (ends in Guard or Half Guard): 2 points - A Normal Sweep is recognized when a competitor initiates an attack from a bottom guard position that results in them transitioning to a top position and establishing control for 3 seconds or more. It's crucial that the competitor is not under the threat of a submission during the sweep to earn the full 2 points.
Knee on belly: 2 points - To score 2 points with Knee on Belly, the athlete on top must be free from the opponent’s guard. They need to place their knee or shin on the opponent’s hip, belly, chest, or ribs, ensuring their opposite knee is fully off the ground. The opponent must be lying on their back or side. Points will not be awarded if the knee is removed from the stomach for 3 seconds or more and then placed back for another 3 seconds or more.
-
The single point: Awarded in situations where you almost scored but couldn't maintain the position for the required 3 seconds. This is similar to the concept of an advantage in other competitions, instead of using an advantage points systems we award single points to acknowledge the effort in attempting the manoeuvre.
